Cold Outreach

First Contact — General

Lead with the value you bring, not a request. Brands get hundreds of DMs — specificity cuts through.

Hi [BRAND CONTACT NAME],

I'm [YOUR NAME], a [NICHE] creator with [FOLLOWER COUNT] followers across [PLATFORMS]. My audience is [AUDIENCE DESCRIPTION — e.g. "women 25–34 interested in fitness and clean eating"].

I've been following [BRAND NAME] for a while and genuinely use/love [SPECIFIC PRODUCT OR THING]. I think my audience would respond really well to an honest partnership — [ONE SENTENCE ON WHY YOUR AUDIENCE FITS].

I'd love to explore what a collaboration could look like. My rates start at $[RATE] for a [DELIVERABLE TYPE]. Would a quick call work?

Best,

First Contact — After Using Their Product

Authentic experience beats generic pitches every time. If you've actually used it, say so and be specific.

Hi [NAME],

I just [BOUGHT / TRIED / RECEIVED] your [PRODUCT NAME] and wanted to reach out — [ONE GENUINE SPECIFIC THING YOU LIKED ABOUT IT].

I'm a [NICHE] creator with [FOLLOWER COUNT] on [PLATFORM]. My audience already asks me about products like this and I've been recommending [ALTERNATIVE] — which tells me there's clear demand.

Would love to do a proper paid collaboration rather than just a casual mention. Happy to share my media kit and recent engagement stats. Are you currently working with creators at my tier?

First Contact — Proposing Affiliate Partnership

Lower barrier to entry than a paid deal. Good opening move with brands that have affiliate programs.

Hi [NAME],

I'm [YOUR NAME], a [NICHE] creator with [FOLLOWER COUNT] followers on [PLATFORM]. I've been recommending [BRAND / PRODUCT CATEGORY] organically and my audience consistently asks where to buy.

I noticed you have an affiliate program and wanted to reach out directly — I'd love to join and promote [SPECIFIC PRODUCT] with a dedicated piece of content, not just a link in bio.

Would it be possible to discuss a hybrid arrangement — an affiliate rate plus a flat fee for the content itself? Happy to send my media kit if helpful.

Follow-Up

Follow-Up — Day 7 (Polite)

Most outreach gets buried, not ignored. One polite follow-up doubles your reply rate without annoying anyone.

Hi [NAME],

Just following up on my note from [DATE] — I know inboxes get busy.

I'm still really interested in working with [BRAND NAME]. If now isn't the right time or budget, totally understand — even knowing that would be helpful so I can plan my partnerships calendar.

Happy to send a one-pager with my stats if that makes it easier to share internally.

Follow-Up — Day 14 (With New Hook)

Give them a new reason to reply — attach a recent stat, a relevant piece of content, or a seasonal hook.

Hi [NAME],

Circling back one more time — I recently [POSTED A VIDEO THAT GOT X VIEWS / WORKED WITH A SIMILAR BRAND / HIT A MILESTONE] and thought it was relevant timing.

If you're planning campaigns for [UPCOMING SEASON / Q3 / HOLIDAY], I'm building my calendar now and have [DATE RANGE] available. My rates are [RATE RANGE] depending on deliverables.

Would love to lock something in if there's appetite. If partnerships aren't your call, happy to be pointed to the right person.

Follow-Up — Final (After Ghosting)

Last message should close the loop gracefully. It often gets replies because it removes pressure. Don't burn the bridge.

Hi [NAME],

I'll keep this short — I know you're busy and I don't want to keep pinging you if this isn't the right fit.

If [BRAND NAME] isn't working with creators at my tier right now, that's completely fine. I'd just love a quick yes or no so I can plan accordingly.

Either way, I'm a genuine fan of what you're building. Happy to reconnect whenever timing is better.

Negotiation

Counter-Offer — Rate Too Low

Never negotiate against yourself. Counter with your rate + specific justification. Most brands have flexibility.

Hi [NAME],

Thank you for sending this over — I'm really excited about the opportunity to work with [BRAND].

I want to be straightforward: the budget you've mentioned is below my standard rate for this type of content. My rate for a [DELIVERABLE TYPE] with [USAGE TERMS] is $[YOUR RATE].

This is based on [FOLLOWER COUNT] followers, [ER]% engagement, and my niche audience in [NICHE]. I've attached my media kit for reference.

Would [BRAND] have flexibility to meet me at $[YOUR RATE]? I'm also happy to adjust the deliverable scope if that helps — for example, we could do [MODIFIED SCOPE] at the budget you mentioned.

Let me know how you'd like to proceed.

Counter-Offer — Gifted Only Deal

Gifted deals are fine for products worth your time, but content creation is work. Don't do it for free unless it's genuinely worth it to you.

Hi [NAME],

Thanks for reaching out about [PRODUCT] — I've been following [BRAND] for a while and love what you're doing.

I want to be upfront: I'm not currently accepting unpaid gifting collaborations. Creating quality sponsored content takes significant time — scripting, filming, editing, and revisions — so I work on a paid basis.

That said, I'd love to find a way to make this work. My rate for [DELIVERABLE] is $[RATE]. If the budget isn't there right now, I'd also consider a gifted + reduced cash arrangement: product + $[LOWER RATE].

Would either of those options work on your end?

Counter-Offer — Unlimited Usage Rights

Perpetual, unlimited usage rights are extremely valuable to brands. They should cost significantly more than a basic content fee.

Hi [NAME],

Thanks for the brief — looks like a great fit. I noticed the contract includes unlimited perpetual usage rights across all channels.

I want to flag this because it's different from a standard social media post, where I retain the rights and the brand has a limited usage window. Unlimited perpetual rights — especially for paid advertising use — carry a separate licensing fee.

My standard rate for content + 12-month digital usage is $[RATE]. For unlimited perpetual rights, I'd add a licensing fee of $[LICENSE FEE], bringing the total to $[TOTAL].

Alternatively, I could offer 6-month digital-only usage at $[LOWER RATE] — which works well for most campaigns.

Happy to discuss — let me know your thoughts.

Counter-Offer — Exclusivity Without Premium

Category exclusivity means turning down other paying clients. That deserves a premium — typically 2–3× your base rate.

Hi [NAME],

I've reviewed the contract and noticed a [30/60/90]-day category exclusivity clause for [PRODUCT CATEGORY].

I want to work with [BRAND] and I take exclusivity seriously — which is exactly why I need it compensated. During an exclusivity window, I decline other partnerships in [CATEGORY], which has real revenue impact.

My standard rate for this deliverable is $[BASE RATE]. With [30/60/90]-day [CATEGORY] exclusivity, I'd need to add $[EXCLUSIVITY FEE] to cover the opportunity cost, bringing the total to $[TOTAL].

Is there flexibility here? Alternatively, if exclusivity isn't essential to your campaign goals, I'm happy to proceed at my standard rate without it.

Counter-Offer — Rush Timeline

Rush work disrupts your schedule, compresses quality time, and often requires weekend or evening hours. Charge for it.

Hi [NAME],

Thanks for the brief — the campaign looks like a great fit.

I do want to flag the timeline. You're asking for delivery by [DATE], which is [X DAYS] from now. My standard production timeline for this type of content is [STANDARD TIMELINE].

I can accommodate the rush, but it requires me to rearrange my existing schedule and work over the weekend. My rate for content with less than [X]-day turnaround includes a rush premium of [25–50]%.

Total with rush fee: $[TOTAL] (base $[BASE] + rush $[RUSH FEE]).

Happy to lock this in today if the adjusted rate works for you.

Decline

Decline — Budget Too Low

A professional decline keeps the door open for future campaigns when budgets grow.

Hi [NAME],

Thank you for thinking of me for this campaign — I love what [BRAND] is doing with [PRODUCT/MISSION].

After reviewing the brief and budget, I don't think I can deliver the quality of content this campaign deserves at the rate offered. I want to be transparent rather than underprice my work and risk the output not meeting expectations.

I'll keep [BRAND] in mind for future collabs — if your influencer budget increases, I'd love to revisit this. You're welcome to check back any time.

Decline — Not Aligned with Niche

Saying no to off-brand deals protects your audience trust and your long-term sponsorship value.

Hi [NAME],

Thanks for reaching out about [CAMPAIGN]. I appreciate the offer and can see why my audience might seem like a fit on the surface.

After thinking it through, I don't feel this product is something I can authentically recommend to my community. My audience trusts me to promote things I'd genuinely use, and I take that seriously — a forced fit usually hurts both of us.

I hope you find the right creator for this campaign. If you ever have something closer to [YOUR NICHE], I'd love to hear about it.

UGC — Cold Outreach to Brand

UGC pitches focus on your production skill, not your audience size. Lead with your output and the ROI brands get.

Hi [NAME],

I'm a UGC creator specializing in [NICHE/PRODUCT TYPE] content for paid social and organic use. I don't post sponsored content on my own channels — I produce high-performing video and photo assets that brands use in their own ads.

I've worked with brands like [EXAMPLE BRANDS IF ANY / "similar DTC brands in your space"] and typically produce [X VIDEOS/MONTH].

My rates start at $[RATE]/video (organic use) and include [NUMBER] revision rounds. I can turn around [DELIVERABLE TYPE] in [TIMELINE].

Would it make sense to send over a couple of sample clips? Happy to share a portfolio link.

UGC — Usage Rights Clarification

UGC brands often assume they own your content forever. Clarify before you start, not after.

Hi [NAME],

Before I confirm the project, I want to make sure we're aligned on usage rights so there are no surprises later.

The deliverable price ($[RATE]/video) covers creation of the content and [ORGANIC SOCIAL / PAID ADS] usage for [DURATION, e.g. "6 months"].

If you'd like to use the content as paid social ads (Spark Ads, Meta whitelist, etc.) for longer than [DURATION], or want to use it in other channels (TV, print, retail), those require a separate usage license.

Extended digital usage (6–12 months paid ads): +$[USAGE FEE]
Perpetual digital usage: +$[PERPETUAL FEE]
Raw footage: +$[RAW FOOTAGE FEE]

Happy to include any of these in the project scope. Just want to make sure we're set up correctly from the start. Does the standard [DURATION] usage work for your campaign?

UGC — Usage Rights Renewal

If a brand is still running your content as paid ads after the usage window expires, they owe you a renewal fee. Most creators never invoice for this — do not be most creators.

Hi [NAME],

I noticed [BRAND] is still running [CONTENT DESCRIPTION, e.g. "my September unboxing video"] as a paid ad on [PLATFORM]. Our original agreement included usage rights through [EXPIRY DATE], which has now passed.

I'm happy to extend the usage rights — my renewal rate for an additional [6/12] months of paid digital advertising is $[RENEWAL FEE].

If you'd like to continue using the content, I can send an updated agreement and invoice today. If you'd prefer to wrap it up, just let me know and I'd ask that you pause the ad by [DATE].

Let me know how you'd like to proceed.
